Foreclosure FAQ's

Is there a fee for your service? No. We receive outside funding to provide this service at no cost to you.

What are my options? There are several options which may be available to you. Please review the information here.

How long does the counseling process take? The process can take anywhere from 2-4 months to reach resolution. Each action plan is different and is specific to your situation and available options. The service we provide is comprehensive and educational. We will not just stamp papers and send you out the door—our goal is to provide financial guidance so as to ensure that your home and future are secure. The timeline is unique and also depends upon your cooperation in getting us the necessary requested documents in a timely manner.

Speaking of paperwork, why do you need all of this information before we meet? Can’t I just explain my situation over the phone? Our counselors’ time is booked in advance and they are always helping several customers concurrently. The documents we require is information that is required by the servicer for workout plans and we will need to review it during your first session. We have streamlined our intake paperwork so as to make it as easy as possible for you while providing a good assessment of your situation for the counselor. This allows them to make significant progress in your first meeting and get an action plan created for you quickly and efficiently, as opposed to scheduling multiple appointments to achieve the same goal.

Where am I supposed to find copies of old tax returns and W2’s if I’ve thrown them away? Maybe you can fill this one in.

I don’t keep old pay stubs or bank statements—what then? Some of these documents will require a little bit of work for you to track down—you may need to go online to retrieve bank statements, or request copies of income statements from employers. To be truthful, the process will create a good amount of work for you and possibly some frustration, but if you’re committed to staying in your home we will do what we can to ensure your efforts are not in vain.

How do I get started? Fill out and submit the forms listed here. Ask a BCL foreclosure prevention counselor to sample documents for help or call our office to speak to a counseling assistant.
